The UP School of Economics will be celebrating its 50th anniversary next year, 2015. The year-long celebration will begin on 7 February 2014 at 7:00 pm at SE 103. Swearing in of the UPSE Alumni Association’s newly-elected Board of Trustees will also be part of the event.
Metrobank, UPecon sign MOA on SOT strengthening
The Metrobank Foundation, Inc. and the UPecon Foundation sign a Memorandum of Agreement launching the conduct of a study to further strengthen the implementation process of the Metrobank Foundation’s Search for Outstanding Teacher (SOT).
Mr. Aniceto M. Sobrepeña, President and Mr. Nicanor L. Torres, Jr., Executive Director represent the Metrobank Foundation. Dr. Ramon Clarete, Dean of UPSE and UPecon Executive Director represents the UPecon Foundation. Witnessing the event are Ms. Irene D. Labitad, Metrobank Sr. Program Manager, Dr. Majah-Leah V. Ravago, UPSE Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator of the project, and Dr. Dennis Mapa, UP School of Statistics Associate Professor and Co-principal Investigator of the project.
SC invites 2 UP profs to Meralco power hike oral debates
The Supreme Court has invited two University of the Philippines professors during oral arguments on Meralco’s controversial P4.15 per kilowatt-hour power rate hike on Tuesday.
At a press briefing, SC Public Information Office chief and spokesman Theodore Te said invited by the SC as amici curiae or friends of the court were Rowaldo del Mundo, a professor at the UP National Engineering Center, and Maria Joy Abrenica from the UP School of Economics.

Asia-Pacific Trade and Investment Report 2013 launched
The Philippine launch of the Asia-Pacific Trade and Investment Report 2013 (APTIR) was held on 7 January 2014, 4 pm, at the UP School of Economics, University of the Philippines, Diliman, Quezon City. The Center for the Advancement of Trade Integration and Facilitation (CATIF) and Philippine Center for Economic Development (PCED) co-organized the launch with the support of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN-ESCAP).
UPSE, IPA-P sign MOU
The UP School of Economics and Innovations for Poverty Action Philippines (IPA-P) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on research, training, organization of seminars and other activities of mutual interest.
Signing on behalf of UPSE is Dean Ramon L. Clarete and witnessed by Dr. Majah-Leah V. Ravago, UPSE Director for Research. Representing IPA-P is Nassreena Sampaco-Baddiri, Country Director, IPA Philippines, with Deputy Country Director Mark Miller as witness.
The event was attended by other UPSE and IPA-P members.

Ayala Corporation Chairman and CEO Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and University of the Philippines School of Economics Dean Ramon L. Clarete sign the Memorandum of Agreement launching the second phase of the Ayala Corporation-UP School of Economics Forum (AC-UPSE Economic Forum). Witnessing the event were UP President Alfredo E. Pascual, Economic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan, Ayala Corporation Managing Director John Philip S. Orbeta, UPSE Professors Majah-Leah Ravago and Marina Fe Durano.
