Dr. Stella Luz A. Quimbo, Professor of Economics at the UPSE, has been conferred the UP Scientific Productivity Award and was appointed Scientist I for the period 2014-2016.

The award was presented by UP President Alfredo E. Pascual, Vice President for Academic Affairs Gisela P. Concepcion, and UP Diliman Chancellor Michael L. Tan to Dr. Quimbo and to six others in a ceremony held at the UP Executive House last December 16, 2014.

The UP Scientific Productivity Award, which is part of the UP Scientific Productivity System (UP SPS), was established by the UP Board of Regents in 2005 to support the development of science and technology and to encourage and reward scientific productivity. Deserving scientists are conferred the title “UP Scientist” and comes with a monetary award for a certain period.

The SPS is UP’s version of the Scientific Career System (SCS) of the Civil Service Commission and the Department of Science and Technology.
