Virata biography as Philippine economic history launched

The University of the Philippines Press has come out with a book spanning four decades of Philippine economic history through a biography of the most recognized technocrat who guided the country through the toughest times in the latter half of the 20th century.

Written by foremost economist and first National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Director General, Dr. Gerardo Sicat, the book Cesar Virata: Life and Times through Four Decades of Philippine Economic History was launched last August 22 at the UP president’s official residence in UP Diliman, Quezon City.

Cesar Emilio Aguinaldo Virata was prime minister and finance minister during the Marcos administration – the most prominent economic technocrat of the regime and the longest serving secretary of finance in the country. Previous to that, he was business professor and college of business dean at UP, a management expert and consultant. (Read the rest of the story here.)
